The laws of success have intrigued me for years and the more I’ve studied, the more repeating themes I’ve seen. We may not all achieve great wealth or prestige, but we can have some degree of personal success and balance in our lives that helps avoid craziness and catastrophes and starts moving us into our callings. We want to get to the point that our lives actually start positively affecting others in a greater way. I’ve listened to a lot of Zig Ziglar, Terri Savelle Foy, Clay Clark & Tony Robbins in my life and more recently added Jim Rohn – and they have helped shape my mind to get out of loser mentalities and believe and work for more! I started reading the Bible when I was young, but I would usually read it by inspiration only.. if you know what I mean. It wasn’t until I turned 22 that I started reading it through every year and developed the discipline of getting “fresh manna” every morning. I didn’t have a ton of spiritual discipline in my life growing up and I thought that if I hadn’t read the Bible first, I shouldn’t read any other self-help or business book I wanted to read either.. so for a while I didn’t get any reading done at all! Wow…
So I’ve been making New Years goals like the rest of humanity as long as I can remember.. You know, get married by 18, have 10 kids, learn Spanish, eat healthy, exercise 3-5x a week, read a chapter a day.. and I’ve gotten some of them done, but without having your goals in front of you everyday, it’s easy to forget to get married by 18.. and now I’m 25. 😉 But a new secret of the greats has been revealed to me recently that I’m now employing in my own life..
I was a pretty bad person back in the day. You might not know by looking at me now, but up until 3 years old I didn’t know Jesus and I don’t want to think back to that dark time in my life…
Okay, so my first sins that I remember were lying about leaving the tricycle out (I got my mouth washed out with soap for that one) & lying about spilling the chocolate milk on the carpet to my aunt. I didn’t want to lose her favor – as if that would do it… 😉
1 – Write when you’re inspired.
It’s a discipline to write when you’re not inspired, which should be attained, but it’s so much more fun to write when you are! A good rule is to write when you’re inspired and edit when you’re not. Writing and blogging can feel irresponsible, and I suppose it can be depending on the content, but if you feel like you need to get helpful information out into the world, you gotta take the time to do it. Chances are you’ll waste time on Instagram and Facebook anyways, so use the time to write instead. 🙂
That’s my workout buddy & baby sister Haddie. She’s a little dream. Anyhow, I went from 117 to 103 lbs through good old-fashion diet and exercise. It took about 6 months. That sounds horribly long, but I didn’t know what I was doing at first. I thought my one mile runs and semi regular workouts were enough. I found out that diet is really key though – they say it’s about 80% of the results, but workout is essential for toning and especially for blasting off the weight that just likes to stay around. Once you get where you want, it’s a lot easier to maintain that weight and tone with a lot less effort. It isn’t fair, but it’s great! My sister Haley & I moved out for the 2nd time, but the 1st time on our own! We got a cute 1 bedroom, 2 story apartment (which I never even knew existed), and it feels like such a little dollhouse! Pix below.
It’s a reoccurring theme of self-development books that we need to be listening to 30 minutes of motivational audio a day and the easiest way I’ve found to do that is when I workout! Music is good, but it’s usually not going to advance your mind, so I put my earplugs in or connect my wireless speaker and it makes exercise something I actually look forward to! & I’ve grown so much from it.
